As she stared at the papers in my hand, her face went white. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. The notarized copy of my vasectomy, the negative test results, and the letter from my attorney.
“What is this?” she asked, her voice shaking.
“Proof that I can’t be the father of your baby,” I said, with a smirk. “You see, I got a vasectomy a few months ago. There’s no way I could have gotten you pregnant.”
She was speechless. Her whole plan to trap me into marriage and a lifetime of supporting her and her child had just crumbled to pieces.
“But, but, the condom broke,” she stammered.
“That’s what you said,” I replied. “But I always use condoms to protect against STDs. And I never made any move towards commitment. This was just a casual relationship for me, but you had other plans, didn’t you?”
She couldn’t look me in the eye. She knew she had been caught in her own web of lies and deceit.
“I’ll be sending the papers to your attorney,” I said, as I turned to leave. “And I suggest you think long and hard about who the father of your baby really is before you try to trap another man into supporting it.”
I walked out the door, feeling a sense of satisfaction wash over me. I had outsmarted her and avoided a lifetime of misery. And as I walked down the street, I couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of the whole situation.
