From the beginning to now-pandemic
The COVID-19, from the beginning to now, has changed us a lot. I am a college student, and I can’t go to school this term because of the pandemic. I can only finish my courses at home.
I settled in a Chinese coastal city which is also worth going for a trip. Some people would like to enjoy their holiday here since there are winter spas which could provide them with a fantastic way to relax. As a result, the high-season is winter. Unfortunately, the outbreak of the COVID-19 has dealt a heavy blow to the local tourism. My family has a restaurant near a hot spring resort, and we have to be closed for almost 2 months for the local government didn’t allow us to open otherwise we would be warned and fined. In these 2 months, we had no money coming in but some funds. Therefore, a few shops couldn’t afford the rent without income having to give up the shop. Most importantly, it was just before the Chinese New Year. At first, we were going to see my grandmother, but it was canceled because of the quarantine lockdown. It was a pity and we would go to see my grandmother when the pandemic ends.
The outbreak has raised concerns over its potential impact on tourism. I major in tourism management. One of my teachers said that maybe the tourism couldn’t recover in a short time, and it was very lucky that I am not the graduate and it would be very hard to search for a job due to the downturn in Chinese tourism. Maybe the tourism couldn’t return to normal levels this year.
At the end of my last term, in order to earn some money for my daily life, I went to a factory with a friend for a part-time job. Nevertheless, after we worked for about half a month, we were told that we must stop working and stay at the dormitory. About 2 weeks later, we could go to work, but we were asked to wear mask all day except having dinner or going back to our dormitory. During that time, the masks were quite expensive, especially the N95 masks, but China government has controlled the price in case the price of the masks rises infinitely. And in that 2 weeks without working, we can just stay at our dormitory. Sometimes I felt depressed, because I can just stay there and I can’t go out of the factory without permission. Although I felt a little uncomfortable, I knew it was good for us. When I finished my part-time job, I went back home. On my way back home, I saw the lonely streets and lonely buildings. It seemed everything was in deep sleep. Though in the daytime, I couldn’t see some passer-bys. Besides, I must take a bus to go to the train station. What made me a little afraid was that there were only 2 people in the bus, one was me, and the other was the driver. I remembered that it was very crowded last time I took this bus. Similarly, when I was in the subway, the scene was also lonely. Under normal circumstances, I always couldn’t find a seat left but to stand. This time, there were several people in one carriage, so it was nearly empty. I noticed that everyone wore a mask for the reason that people with no masks were not allowed to get into. Every time I entered a station, liked the train station and the bus station, there would be staff helping passengers take their temperatures to rule out the people who may be infected.
In this pandemic, I think Dr. Zhong Nanshan is one of the most important people. It is he that considered the COVID-19 was infectious, which made the public attach importance to the virus. And there were many medical workers risked his life to rescue the patients infected by the COVID-19. I have the highest respect for them.
Now, we have passed the hardest time. People start to work and students start to go to school. And a few people would go out for a trip in a short distance, but we should still wear masks in public. The pandemic isn’t over, so we shouldn’t relax our vigilance. It is a war between people and the COVID-19, and I think we will be the winner with our efforts.
