Many times people consider their home or office a place of refuge from all the hassles of everyday life. Home needs to be an escape. However, many homes do have air that is not pure and this can cause many breathing issues for the residents and even worse. When a home has unhealthy air circulating, a home is no longer a safe haven. Rather, it has become a place that can make the residents ill. Sometimes air may contain higher than normal levels of contaminants and air-born particles that can lead to respiratory issues such as infections and allergies. This article will lay out 5 breathing signs that indicate bad air quality in a home or office.
Coughing and Coughing
Many times a person develops a cough and considers it a nuisance and will wait for it to go away on its own. However, when a person is breathing dirty air, this can also cause a coughing issue. A healthy person who has never had a lung issue may find themselves continuously coughing if they are breathing in dirty air. Dirty air can be even worse for those who have a prior breathing issue diagnosed. Lack of ventilation can lead to a higher than normal amount of air-born particles as well as increased levels of Carbon Dioxide. An increase in Carbon Dioxide in a room means less oxygen will be available as well.
Asthma Attacks are Happening
For those who have asthma, breathing in contaminated air can exacerbate the issue. The poor air quality will have an increased negative effect on people who may have the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. When breathing in poor quality air, these diseases can flare up causing more coughing fits, breathlessness, more mucus in the lungs, and even more issues. Dust may be present within the air system and proper circulation can help alleviate these kinds of issues.
Irritations
Polluted air can cause many minor issues at first and these issues may become worse with time. Irritation in the eyes, nose, throat, and even on the surface of the skin may be a sign of bad air being present. Eczema, psoriasis, and acne can all be aggravated by polluted air. A constant sore throat or sore eyes are often signs of bad air being present. Sneezing is also a very common irritation felt alongside sore and burning eyes and many times a cough.
Breathing is Difficult
One of the most obvious issues experienced by breathing in polluted air is simply not being able to breathe correctly. When a person is struggling to breathe or experiencing the feeling of breathlessness, it is important to end exercise in the area this is experienced. Exercising in polluted air can make matters worse.
Nauseous or Dizzy Feeling
Dizziness or nausea can be signs that polluted air is present. When a person sits in a car in a garage for a couple of minutes, it can cause nausea or dizziness, and this is the feeling that may come from polluted air as well. If nausea and being dizzy are not bad enough, severe headaches can also be a symptom of bad air. Garbage in the area sitting too long, pesticides being present, and even cleaning products can leave behind particles that can cause many issues mentioned.
This article has gone over a number of symptoms a person may experience while breathing in polluted air. Exposure to polluted air is a bad thing and can have terrible effects on health in the short term as well as the long run. Keep your air clean with a HEPA air purifier where you can, and breathe easy.
