Dressing on Casual Fridays
Nowadays, the workplace dress code is not what they used to be in the past. Although wearing professional attire is still considered compulsory in many organizations, the attire now depends on the type of your profession.
In the corporate world, the casual wear is now allowed on certain days during specific times of the year, especially during the summer season when it becomes unbearably hot to wear the usual office clothes. In the corporate language, this type of clothing is known as “Casual Fridays”.
Although you will not prefer layering your dress, you will still require a particular wardrobe that is appropriate for your workplace. In other words, if it is Casual Fridays, it doesn’t mean that you can wear anything. Instead, it means that you will have to pick something that is suitable enough for a professional and goes with the culture of your office.
Here are some tips that will help you dress up for a casual Friday at your workplace:
Avoid Looking Too Casual
Never take a Casual Friday for granted. Your wardrobe for Casual Friday should not resemble the one you wear when you go for a morning walk! Even if you are a minimalist, you should wear something that is decently acceptable as an office wear.
You should not just roll out of the bed and go to work. Remember that you should wear something that makes you look clean and suave while still maintaining a professional demeanor.
Be Particular About the Fitting of Your Attire
Keep away from wearing something that is too tight or too loose. For example, if you’re wearing jeans,
make sure that it fits your physique. Similarly, the attire should not make you feel distressed or ragged at the bottom
A better choice is to wear a pair of dark color jeans. It looks a lot more professional than its lighter tone version. You should also ensure that the clothing is not too baggy or too skinny jeans as it will not make a good appearance. Instead, try wearing a straight legged or boot cut jeans as it gives a more sober look.
The same goes for a shirt. You need to make sure that it does not look like a gigantic sweater, sweatshirts or loungewear as this will make you look lethargic. Also, make sure what you wear is not too tight fitted or gives a see-through look and accentuate the silhouette or any part of your body. You should wear shirts that cover all the necessary parts of your body.
Wear Proper Shoes
The footwear is as important a part of your Casual Fridays as your outfit. For women, flip-flops are not a good choice as they expose your feet. Sneakers and tennis shoes are also not allowed as they also make you look dumb.
Instead, a pair of sandals or ballet flats will do as it makes you look stylish and gives a comfortable feel. For men, a pair of loafer is always a good choice.
Avoid Showing Body Modifications
A majority of companies don’t allow their workers to do any body modifications. This is because some people take offense for such body decorations due to religious or cultural reasons. Therefore, it is important that you first contact your HR personnel regarding the company policy for such stuff.
Don’t Wear Gym Attires
Gym clothes are not meant to wear in the workplace. Things like skin tights, leggings, and skimpy shorts should be avoided as an office wear for casual Friday.
Avoid Wearing Sheer Clothing
Sheer clothing is a big no when it comes to office wear. This is particularly applicable for women who wear see-through clothing who want to flaunt their body. Such clothes tend to get the uninvited attention of people and distract them from their work. Therefore, you should not wear sheer clothes in the office.
Don’t Wear Cropped Tops
Wearing cropped tops is a big “don’t” for professional workers. Both men and women should avoid wearing cropped tees or cardigans that encourage the navel show. Showing your midriff doesn’t look cool when you are in office as it is a place for work and not for a fashion.
Therefore, you should not put on your cropped tops as they can divert the attention of the people in your workplace and can invite weird looks.
What you wear is a manifestation of your personality. So when you select your wardrobe for Casual Fridays, you should be very particular about the granular details of your cloth and this is where the aforementioned tips come into play.
