Joe Pera Puts You To Sleep
If you liked watching Mr. Rogers everyday as a child, or if you liked watching a specific personality that calmed you down, I suggest you get to know Joe Pera. Joe Pera has his own show on Adult Swim, which aired on May 20, 2018, and features two 15-to-20 minute episodes air every Friday night. I must admit, I was a little high when it came on and I saw it for the first time, but it was rather soothing, and calmed my anxiety.
Yes, I probably spoke about it on here before, but I don’t recall which confession it was, but I am a medical cannabis user. And while this article is not about my conditions, I just wanted to mention that living in the world we live in qualifies every single person for “medical cannabis”. We live in a crazy fucked up world. The least my government can do for me is not throw me in prison where I am contributing nothing to society, all because I needed a break from society.
Or wait, does prison sound good? A few meals a day with an hour of exercise? Though it does suck to be without the Internet 24/7. Makes you realize how connected you are. Not that I have ever been to prison, nor do I ever want to go, but oftentimes, I wonder how much the freedom of time allows me to become a workaholic and lose myself in my job. Sometimes, I just need a break from it all.
Joe Pera is the guy who makes me realize that I am just a guy trying to survive in the world and keeping good company to do it. The first episode I ever saw, Joe Pera Talks You Back To Sleep, is my absolute favorite episode. The calmness of his voice mixed in with the rain and thunderstorm is the perfect medicine for me to really feel like everything is okay in the world, and I’m going to be alright. No matter what decisions I make, no matter what I did that day, even if it happens to be decisions that are completely lifechanging.
Apparently, I am not the only one who thought this, because on YouTube, you can find Joe Pera talking to you for 10 hours straight. Imagine walking into someplace where Joe Pera was playing. That would be a really happy and calming place. There is just something about the calming soul of Joe Pera. He speaks to you by directly allowing you to look into his life, even if it is not his real life. We all feel it is real.
Joe Pera is a schoolteacher for choir and sometimes when he is talking to the children, he asks them questions about the older generations, and you can see their reactions. Most children only learn about Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, etc. through their parents or by accidentally discovering the music. He also has a girlfriend, Sara who is a co-worker, and is completely paranoid about the world coming to an end. She is a hoarder, but of the good kind: she stocks her bomb-proof basement with dozens of canned foods that will help her survive at least for up to a year after the incident happens.
Twilight Zone had a similar episode for officially expired canned food. Here is the audio version and a short video of the episode. While she never really says what she does once it expires, most of the canned food is likely to be preserved and still good to eat at least a dozen years later. However, over time, the metal would be infused with the food, and it would not be safe to eat, as metal-eating bacteria, which is likely to evolve, would eat the hard bad part in order to get to the “food goodness” in side. Anyway, it is hinted that she does try to eat some of it before it goes bad, or donates it to charity, as it comes close to its expiration date. It is a good deed on her part to be selfish, in her own way, while being charitable in another.
It is like once you see Joe Pera, you know this isn’t just a guy acting. This is Joe Pera. This is how he is in real life, and because he is this way, you’d really like to have him as a friend. He feels like a soulmate, a guide, a man you can trust. You wonder, however, is he acting? Or is he just being himself? No one will ever truly know, but for some reason, I feel this is Joe Pera. How awesome is it to just be yourself and get paid for it? Although this is just his show, and he is an actor and comedian, Joe Pera really immerse you into his life, and sometimes the lives of those closest to him.
These are Joe Pera’s friends and family, and it is nice to see that a normal guy trying to live a normal life doing normal things, which we too, are also doing. This is really why we like, or why I like Joe Pera so much. He’s my best friend and I do not even know the guy. He’s a reminder for me to just be myself, and everything else will fall into place. If you haven’t seen Joe Pera yet, you can catch him on Adult Swim. A YouTube search of his videos will also reveal his former acts and reveal to you exactly why you are now confirming what I said about Joe Pera.
