Stress and the workplace seem to go hand-in-hand, but how do the physical and emotional manifestations of stress contribute to workers’ mental wellbeing?
A new survey of over 2,000 American workers by Maestro Health, reveals the prevalence of workplace stress in 2020. Highlights include:
- 1 in 3 experiences work-related stress daily, or multiple times a week
- 69% of workers say they’ve experienced burnout as a result of their job
- Top manifestations of work stress: 56% feel overwhelmed, 55% feel irritable, 54% experience headaches, 41% experience muscle tension
- 75% of millennials report “high” or “very high” levels of work-related stress, compared to 53% of Baby Boomers
Many Americans aren’t taking mental health days. In fact, the study found 35% of people say they don’t take off work because they need the money, while 24% say they have too much work to do, and six percent say their employer wouldn’t recognize it as a valid reason for a day off.
