May 8, 2019 — When we began Confessions of the Professions, we originally intended for this website to be about rants only, a place where people could come to share their stories, talk about their days at work, maybe a backstabbing co-worker or a horrible boss, but it would soon be our contributors who would define the direction of this website when they began submitting articles pertaining to the workplace, rather than their own rants, particularly on how to do things or insight into their jobs, careers, or workplaces. As we continued to evolve, we received our first infographic submission from GlassDoor back in 2013 and it was then that we made the decision to publish it, realizing just how valuable and great infographics could be.
With our decision to publish infographic images, we also decided to make available a PDF version that would coincide and be offered as an alternative to the image. While we have absolutely no data showing whether this method was popular or not, we had recently begun to include PDF versions at random. With over 2,000+ infographics including their PDF counterparts, we have uploaded more than a combined total of 4,000+ infographics (most jpg and pdf format and some in gif). The step in making a PDF is to simply open Adobe Photoshop and save the image as a PDF for web version. Since we do not allow our PDFs or images to be over 5 MB, we would often use a website like PDF Compressor to take the PDFs down to a more appropriate size.
Originally we believed that adding PDF version to our website would add value, but since we never really collected data on whether our readers found our PDF versions of infographics useful or not, and anyone who has copied our infographics to their site, with credit back often posts images, we feel this feature really does not add any further value to our infographics. We apologize for the inconvenience but feel there are just not enough people who need a PDF version. So we are unsure of the usefulness of actual PDF versions, thus for the time being, we will no longer be publishing infographics with PDF formats. Available will be the JPG for download. We encourage the sharing of our infographics but ask that if you do use them, you credit it back to our website with a simple link: Confessions of the Professions.
