If you work in sales, you know how difficult it can be to finally close a sale. Because of this, once you do make that sale, you might be so excited and relieved that you forget about some of the most important aspects of finishing off that sale and ensuring that it’s easier for you to make sales with that person or business in the future.
To help ensure that you don’t fall victim to these mistakes, here are three things you should do after closing a sale.
Express Your Appreciation
One of the very first things that you should do when you close a sale, be it for something small or for something large, is to express to the person you’ve just sold to how much you appreciate them and their business.
If you can do this in person as soon as the sale is complete, that’s great. But when will often drive this point home even more is if you take the time to send them something that further expresses your appreciation. If you can contact them again later to tell them thank you for working with you and making a purchase from you, this personal touch will help them to feel appreciated and make them want to continue working with you in the future, too.
Consider Asking For Referrals, Reviews, Or Testimonials
Something that you should strongly consider after you’ve closed a sale and had a great experience with someone is to ask them for a referral or a testimonial. By doing this soon after the sale has taken place, you’ve likely to have their excitement reflected in the number of people they’ll refer to you or the quality of the testimonial or review they leave for you.
It’s through referrals that many sales-based industries get their best leads. So if you don’t already have this practice in place for when you close a sale, consider adding this to the list of things that you do after a sale to set yourself up for future success.
Make A Plan To Follow Up
Just because this sale has been completed doesn’t mean that you should forget about this person and immediately begin moving on to other leads. Rather, to save yourself some time and trouble in the future, it’s best to continually nurture the sales that you’ve made so that they want to come back and work with you again when the need arises.
To keep yourself in their mind during this time, make a plan for how you’ll continue to follow up with people. Using a CRM system can make this a whole lot easier for you.
If you want to make your life in sales easier and more successful in the future, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you know what to do after you close a sale.
