Winter Is Coming, Are You Ready?
I live in the Northwest (Bend, Oregon) and every year is a repeat of the last. At the first snow people are delighted and refreshed. Skis and sleds are unpacked, snowmobiles are revved up and excitement is in the air.
And as soon as Christmas is over (sometimes before) the scrooge in everyone awakes. It’s too cold, too messy, too hard to get around. And while much of that is understandable and justified, much of the scrooginess can actually be prevented!
Can you stop it from snowing? No. But you can certainly take steps to ensuring you and your home are prepared for the cold!
Think about it- is there a spot anywhere on your property that is ALWAYS icy? Year after year that little patch on the walkway is always a solid piece of ice. While that may seem at first glance like a stroke(s) of bad luck, the real issue is that there’s a depression in your concrete routinely collecting water and freezing over. What you have is not a karma issue but a landscaping issue.
Certainly other, less clever forms of winter prep exist. For example, always make sure there’s anti-freeze in your windshield wiper lines.
The moral of the story is don’t be a scrooge! Don’t create problems for yourself by failing to act on lessons from the past.
