Labor Law Violations and Minimum Wage Increases
When someone is employed, there is a general expectation that an employer is well aware of what the labor laws need to be. Unfortunately, numerous companies or businesses are guilty of violating labor and wage laws on a daily basis. What’s worse is when some businesses intentionally violate labor laws by withholding earned wages in an attempt to save some money. Another instance is when an employees is discriminated against in the workplace. When it comes to labor laws, the intentions a company has towards its employees really matters. Furthermore, it is important for employees to know when their rights are being violated by their employers.
There are some labor laws that should be widely known and put into practice, but they are not. There are five common labor laws violations that need to be highlighted in the workplace. Some of those include the payment of minimum wage. Failure to pay minimum wage is violating labor laws. In America, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. Most employees who work in the hospitality industry are most likely to experience this type of labor law violation because of the tips they earn while working. Below is an infographic that details common wage violations to be on the lookout for. As with anything in life, it is always important to educate yourself in order to avoid being taken advantage of.
