RS Components have analysed official UK government data on the number of job vacancies from 1978 to 2018, to see which industries are growing, stagnating and declining in the UK’s job market.
Here are some key stories this new research reveals:
Real estate jobs are up 234% in the past 40 years, with over 500,000 real estate job vacancies available in the UK in 2018
Science and technology job vacancies are up 208% since 1978, marking a significant shift from the manufacturing Britain of old, to the technology-focused one of the future
More manual and labour intensive jobs such as mining and quarrying job vacancies are down 84%, along with manufacturing vacancies, which are down 59%, and electricity, gas and air conditioning suppliers down 41%
