Unless you are born or married into money, you will need to work in order to survive. You will need to earn money in order to pay your bills, such as mortgage/rent, utilities, insurance, etc., and you will have to earn this money through a job.
Some people are stuck working at a job they hate, and this can cause them to suffer in other aspects of their life, such as their health or personal relationships. The biggest complaints among unhappy workers is not making enough money or working for a miserable boss, but the only way to combat these complaints is to work for yourself.
While most people would love to own their own business, many are afraid to take the risks associated with starting a business. But there’s a way to earn all the perks of working for yourself without having to take all the risk, and you can do so by becoming a freelancer.
Being a freelancer has many benefits, and if you hate your job and want to work for yourself, the following are four reasons why being a freelancer may be the right move for you.
1. You’re tired of working for “the man”.
We’ve all had that one boss that drives us crazy. Maybe they are rude, incompetent or just downright nasty. Either way, if you’re having a hard time working your butt off for someone that doesn’t do anything or doesn’t care about your well being, you may want to be a freelancer. This way, all that hard work you do will only benefit you, not some ungrateful boss or some big company that doesn’t even know you exist, and knowing that you’ll get out what you put in can be a great reason to freelance.
2. You want to make more money.
When you work for a company, you are making only what they believe you’re worth. This means that only pennies of what the company is receiving from clients and customers is going into your pocket. But when you’re a freelancer, all the money you receive from a project belongs to you (aside from the money you will owe the IRS in taxes). This means that you have the ability to charge your own fees for your work and earn much more than what you’re currently making.
3. You want to spend more time with your family.
Sometimes working long hours can get in the way of quality time with your family. If you feel as if you’re always at the office, working freelance can be a great way to balance work and life. You will be able to work from the comfort of your own home, which means that you don’t have to deal with a long commute. You can also set your own hours, which means that you’ll be able to attend all those family events and be home in time for dinner with your loved ones every day. If you’re craving more time with your family, working as a freelancer is the right option.
4. You can do your job from home.
Thanks to the Internet, most jobs can now be done from the comfort of home. If you can do your job from anywhere, you should consider becoming a freelancer. Whether you write, are a virtual assistant, telemarketer, graphic designer, transcriptionist, translator—anything that you can do with a computer and an Internet connection can be done on a freelance basis. If your job is something that can be done from home, then you should be a freelancer. This way, you’ll be able to enjoy all the perks of being a freelancer.
