The COVID-19 pandemic has affected and instantly altered every facet of day-to-day life. It has raged across the world like wildfire in only a few months. It is forcing people to shelter indoors, leaving tens of thousands dead, economies flattened, and millions to struggle to make ends meet.
But one thing is for sure, this pandemic will end. Regardless of how long it takes. Scientists will discover a vaccine and many of the enormous rules that were enforced will be lifted.
However, The longer the global effort to control the spread of the virus through lockdown continues, the less likely we’ll go back to a life that’s the same pre-pandemic. Our life post-pandemic will differ from the one we had before the outbreak.
What Will Surely Change
As a result of our individual and collective experiences throughout the pandemic, things will change both temporary and permanent. We’ll discuss some of the most significant changes we’ll experience below.
Brand-new Habits
Countries around the globe saw a surge in personal and public hygiene awareness thanks to the contagion. Health authorities are advocating for regular handwashing with soap for at least 20 seconds. Social distancing measures are in place. No handshaking and coughing into one’s elbow. Also, a new report states that the COVID-19 pandemic may last for two years. The WHO has even warned that the coronavirus might never go away. This means that These new-formed habits will become the norm after lockdowns are lifted.
Working From Home Will Become Mainstream
Millions of people are now home-based workers. This is not a new phenomenon, but this pandemic has made it more mainstream. Not every job can be done virtually of course, but due to the coronavirus people have found innovative ways to digitize jobs. In the future, when this pandemic has ended, this trend will continue.
New Traveling Standards
In the pre-pandemic globalized world, we could travel almost without limitations. This will change, now that the world is experiencing the severity of this virus and how easy it is to it. The pandemic is already exacerbating signs of social anxiety and agoraphobia. Regaining trust takes time and these trends will take place for months after lockdowns are lifted. Airlines and airports will also take measures to make sure people with COVID-19 do not infect other passengers.
More Online Education
The pandemic has forced schools and teachers to use to provide online learning. While online learning is not new, we might experience a surge in this method of teaching in the future. Many schools are opening their doors again, but this pandemic has forever changed how human development and learning look.
Final Thoughts
This pandemic has billions of people confined to their homes, caused increased deaths, economies are imploding and millions have lost their means of income. In the future, we will get back to our lives and enjoy the outdoors. But that life will be significantly different.
To reach that point we will have to Continue social distancing measures and other health habits. These will reduce the spread of the disease and slowly usher us into a post-pandemic world.
