LinkedIn is a social network with over 100 million users that allows you to network professionally, list your resume publicly online, find jobs, and establish professional connections with hundreds of people from many different occupations. LinkedIn is kept more professional than other social media networks, limiting its usage of web applications, chatroom features, and forums. With LinkedIn, you may show off your personal portfolio for your friends, family, and other business professionals to see.
LinkedIn is used mostly by people who are working and in between the ages of 25 – 54. While LinkedIn is popular in the United States, it is slowly gaining popularity in other countries, specifically in the United Kingdom and India. LinkedIn is a great tool for many recruiters, as it allows them to search through profiles of people in specific fields, explore their skill set, and examine their behavior in the workplace, looking at what they do at their jobs, and how many years they’ve held specific jobs.
While some people tend to exaggerate some of their skills, or flat out lie in their profiles, the power of LinkedIn is growing and a person with a lot of professional experience, especially in the field of technology can surely expect several messages from recruiters. Advertising yourself on LinkedIn is not hard and LinkedIn has a tool to even download a profile into a professional resume format.
If you plan to use LinkedIn, make sure you spend a few hours to complete your profile. Your LinkedIn profile is like a resume online and many eyes will see it from the LinkedIn search engine, as well as Google, Bing, and other search engines who may be looking for someone like you to fill a job or career position. Ensure that you include a professional image of yourself, preferably a headshot that presents your face clearly, and does not have anyone else in the picture.
If you own a business, you will want to establish a company profile on LinkedIn, complete with as much information as you can that will help people discover your business and your products.
If used properly, LinkedIn can be used to generate leads and direct them to a landing page which may turn them into a loyal conversion. LinkedIn gives you a professional image before they get to see the great professional image your business presents on the company website.
LinkedIn is a very valuable tool that can provide your business and your personal profile with everything it needs. Since LinkedIn has been around since 2003 and has established a strong user base of millions of employees, employers, and even the unemployed, it has become the #1 trusted source for many businesses and people. LinkedIn is a very powerful, often under-utilized tool that more businesses should be taking advantage of.
