The US birthrate is on the decline, so what’s stopping women aged 18 to 51 from starting a family?
A new study by Harmony Healthcare IT revealed that women today are bombarded by societal pressures, career ambitions, general uncertainty about their maternal instincts and financial security when it comes to having kids.
Findings:
- 52% say they plan to have children, 31% say they don’t plan to have children and 17% said they were not sure.
- Top reasons why women don’t plan to have children: 1. Financial reasons 2. Career ambitions 3. Impact on lifestyle.
- Top reasons why women want children: 1. Friends having kids 2. Family having kids 3. Social media.
- 86% say it’s acceptable to have kids later, but 69% worry about the health and viability of the pregnancy if they delay.
