There are many people who take the leap of faith, take out a loan or their invested savings, and become a business owner doing something they have always dreamed of doing, whether they choose to run a restaurant, open their own pet grooming or dog walking business, become a handyman and comb the neighborhoods for clients and contracts, or even open up a cleaning business for company offices and homes.
A daily contributor of articles to Confessions of the Professions, as he tends to signature his author link with his company, I wondered just who he was and what he did for a living. I had only briefly spoken to him several times, but he had always talked about his business, written articles explaining what a cleaning business or cleaning service does, but I wanted to know who the man was, how he started the whole business, and what it was like to operate such a business. I requested an interview. He was very happy to oblige.
This is my interview with the owner of a Cleaning Service.
What is your name? Morgan Johnes
What do you do for a living? I am an owner of a company which offers professional cleaning services to homes and offices.
What is the name of your business? I operate Cleaners London Professional Cleaning Services.
How did you get into the business? I was raised in a home, where perfect hygiene was absolutely compulsory. My whole family and I used to spend time every other day cleaning and doing our best to keep the house clean. Each of us had individual cleaning tasks to complete and when everyone was ready, my mother would check to see if everything was done properly.
I remember I hate cleaning at first but after some time, it became such an inevitable part of my life that I stopped considering it an annoying responsibility. I did everything automatically and did not even think about it anymore. I have no regrets and I am glad I was taught this way. However, it would have been much easier if there was someone to help us in our daily chores. And this is exactly how the idea of setting up this company was born. I figured that, perhaps, there are many more people who are going through the same thing as me, spending their time carrying out cleaning tasks. It occurred to me that such people would love to have extra help.
Do you love what you do? I do love what I do. It is important to maintain good hygiene, not only for our comfort but for our health as well. I love knowing that we help our customers to enjoy perfect cleanliness at home and at work. The idea that we provide to them with what is good for them gives me great pleasure.
Did you start your own business? Yes. I opened this company with the initial intention to create a small group of regular clients. However, I was pleasantly surprised to watch the business grow to become what it is today – a respected and reliable company which satisfies the needs of thousands of customers.
At what age were you when you got into your business? I was in my twenties when I got involved in the cleaning business.
What is your education? I have a master’s degree in Strategic Marketing Management. My education has definitely helped me a lot in developing and running a successful business.
How do you get business from clients? The company is all about customer satisfaction. Our mission is to build perfect company-customer relations with every client and we do it by being loyal and conscientious.
What is the best client you have ever dealt with? A good client is one who appreciates our work and effort. We have had many great clients who have shown us their satisfaction. However, I remember that one time a customer called us at the last minute, desperately needing to have her whole house cleaned for an unexpected family gathering. Although it was a very busy time, we found a way to schedule an appointment and clean the place. She was so happy we helped her that she sent us chocolates and a lovely thank-you letter.
What is the worst client you have never dealt with? The worst client would be one who complains for no reason, treats our cleaners rudely and does not appreciate our help.
What advice do you have for people looking to get into the business? The best advice I could give them is to plan their whole business carefully before starting. It’s a slippery slope which can lead to very unsatisfactory results if not organised and managed properly.
As I look around my apartment, I think I do actually need a cleaning service! Most of us probably do! Though I am completely OCD about dishes in the sink!
Morgan, I appreciate the interview and I hope only for the continued success of your business. If you live in the London or the surrounding areas, don’t hestitate to hire Cleaners London Professional Cleaning Services!
