The Personalities Of Clients You Will Face
There is nothing quite like working as a freelancer. You get to work with people of all industries, ages and a wide array of personalities. Your success as a freelancer is typically tied to your performance on a project-by-project basis. So, you typically need to follow the lead of your client in order to get things done. But, we all know that is easier said than done.
Most clients mean well for the most part. What they want are good results. They want success. But, how you get to those results might differ from their sense of the project. Therein lies the problem. We’ve all had bad clients, but there are some traits that you can recognize and avoid if you are aware of them ahead of time. GetCRM broke them down in this clever infographic, but here is the breakdown:
The Design Expert – This is the Steve Jobs want-to-be. They think they have a handle on all things design and constantly suggest things that, in their head, are vast improvements.
The Indecisive Executive – They are constantly jumping from one decision to the next, making your job insanely hard.
The Confused Commander – They have hired you for a specific task that they definitely don’t understand, but still insist on telling you how to do your job.
The Ghost – They are illusive. Sometimes active and communicative, but most of the time will dump work on you and then ghost away!
The Client Who Cried Wolf – They email you at the drop of a hat and everything is a horrible emergency.
The Feedback Failure – These are the clients who give sparse, confusing, or overly general feedback.
The Penny – Pinching Visionary – They have tiny budgets, but ask for everything under the sun.
The Workaholic – This is also sometimes called the constant communicator. They are always online and insist that you answer at all times.
These are known as the terrible clients. Unfortunately they all exist out there, but hopefully knowing what to expect will help you avoid them in the future.
