The Holy Month Of Ramadan
I am Maya Javed. Being Muslim I believe that there is no God but ALLAH Almighty and Muhammad is the Messenger of ALLAH. ALLAH has sent his message through Jibril to Prophet Muhammad in the form of our Holly Book Quran-e-Pak. This series of sending messages start in the Holy Month of Ramadan that’s why this month is highly prestigious for Muslims.
Muslims practice fast in this Holly month and it’s obligatory for us. As ALLAH says in Quran:
Oh, you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you many learn piety and righteousness” (Q 2:183)
During fast, Muslims stop themselves from eating from Saher (before Fajar Prayer) to Iftaar (till Magrib Prayer or sunset). This practice teaches us humanity and we can feel the pain of poor who do not have enough food to eat. This month teaches us self-control. During this month Muslims offer special prays because ALLAH promises that I will accept your prays.
The doors of hell remain close in this Holly month and ALLAH opens the door of Heaven for his seekers.
Saher time starts after midnight and lasts for 1.5 hours. During saher we used to take normal meals and some dates for energy plus loads of water. After Saher we used to offer Fajar prayer and some Recitation of Quran-e-Pak. After that we used to take rest for 2-3 hours and then get up for daily routine tasks. In midday we offer Zuhar Prayer and then in the afternoon we offer Asar Prayer. We used to offer special prays the whole day for more blessings.
After offering Asar prayer, we start preparing Iftari to break our fast. Iftar usually consists of some special food that we call Pakora, Samosa, Chaat, etc. Along with the energy drinks to retain energy. We used to send some of the iftar to our neighbors and especially to the ones who do not have enough to make a good Iftari. This is another lesson taught by Ramadan. At sunset we break our fast with date and a glass of water or that energy drink.
After that we offer Magrib prayer. After Magrib, we used to take dinner with the meal prepared for iftar. Most of the people do special preparation for iftar with lots of dishes.
After that, we offer Isha prayer with an extra 20 Rakat of Taraweeh that is the special prayer of this Holly month and this long Isha prayer is also a blessing that helps us to digest the food taken in Iftaar.
ALLAH Almighty sets the 1st ten days of Ramadan as days of Mercy, the next 10 days are the days of Forgiveness and the next 10 and most important days are the days of Nijat or safety from the Hell. There are special prays for each section of Ramadan and we usually practice those prays to seek ALLAH’s Mercy.
The last stage or the last 10 days of Ramadan are highly important for Muslims and we practice a special worship that we call Itekaaf. Itekaaf is done to find Laila-tul-Qadar I-e “Night of the abundant portion of blessings” on which Muslims believe the Quraan was first revealed.
This special worship is offered in isolation. Men practice Itekaaf in Mosques and ladies practice Itekaaf at home. The person who is going to practice Itekaaf, go in isolation for 10 days to find Laila-tul-Qadar. This isolation remains for 9-10 days. It depends upon the new moon. The person comes out of Itekaaf after observing the moon of Shawal (the next month).
Ramadan ends, and now we’ll celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr as our gift from ALLAH Almighty. We used to buy new dresses, Jewellery, shoes for Eid. Men offer prayer for Eid (Namaz e Eid)at a public place. Namaz e Eid is not mandatory for ladies. After coming from Namaz e Eid, ladies used to get some money from father and brothers as Eidi and they give this amount happily. This is the most beautiful ritual of Eid. Eid also taught us the lesson to include the poor in your happiness. ALLAH set an amount that we call Fitra especially for the poor to include them in Eid as well. This is the money that we give to the poor to buy dresses, shoes, etc. For Eid.
So the basic purpose of practicing Ramadan is to seek humanity, leave bad deeds, and seeks ALLAH mercy. Science also proves the importance of practicing Fast exactly in the way set by Islam. Practicing 30 Fast once in a year is good for health. Islam is pure science. But unfortunately we Muslims are not presenting the true picture of Islam to this world. Now there are so many divisions in Islam. Everyone calls others as non-Muslim and this division badly disturbing the beautiful I must say the most beautiful religion, Islam. Islam is humanity, Islam is Mercy, Islam is care. Islam is beautiful but our wrong deeds distracting the people away from Islam.
May ALLAH allow every Muslim to practice Ramadan right according to the rules set by ALLAH and Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
