Is Finding Love In The Workplace Worth It?
Is love in the workplace a good idea? The majority of people spend a lot of time at work and nearly half of their lives at work. Wouldn’t it make sense that you might have the chance of meeting your significant other at work? Love in the workplace is fairly common and there are many good things that come of it. Bosses may date their employees or co-workers may date amongst each other. It only makes sense that if two people get along and see each other everyday, they may become attracted to each other.
There are some companies that have policies against dating in the workplace and create a stigma towards dating. Employees are forced to keep their dating a secret. Many companies may even fire employees who develop relationships. The major issue is that if the relationship does not work, the employees are still forced to work with each other, creating office drama and unnecessary lost productivity.
If done right, however, dating someone in the office can be very natural and love can spring. Employee relations can turn into something sweet and welcoming, strengthening both individuals to become even better workers. An employee’s personal life should be kept personal and no one should ever have to know. If two employees decide to date each other, than they should not be sneaking around and spreading office romance.
If you decide to date a co-worker, keep it to yourselves and you should be alright. However, if there are no policies in your office about dating, than if things are fairly solid, you might want to come clean. There could be less secrecy and might even be some benefit to having people know at the office, such as being able to take a vacation together without having to figure out how to take time off between the two of you.
When you first meet and decide whether it is just a hookup, a fling, or could be an actual relationship, you should understand that your job could be on the line and figure out what will happen if it does not work out between you and the person you plan to start seeing. Could you really tolerate their presence in work even if it doesn’t work out? Could you both understand that you both need the job and can’t afford to get fired? Most importantly, if you are already married or spoken for, you probably should not starting any type of office romance.
Know what you want and know the risks. Listen to your logical brain and not the one your blood is traveling to. Is it worth it? It could be the best thing that could ever happen to you or the worst decision you’ll ever make.
