Password-Sharing: 50% of Americans Threaten to Cancel Subscriptions
As Netflix begins implementing new measures to limit password sharing in the United States, a new study suggests it could lead to mass cancellations.
The survey found that 50% of American consumers would cancel their subscriptions if streaming services continue to implement measures against password sharing. Plus, 64% of consumers admit to being frustrated by current measures taken by providers.
For many, password sharing has become second nature.
- 79% think it’s fine to share streaming passwords with those outside their home
- 1 in 3 Americans are unaware how much they spend on recurring streaming subscriptions
- 66% think streaming subscription costs are overpriced, and 46% think their offerings don’t justify the cost
Plus, 2 in 5 don’t think the platforms should be cracking down on those who share passwords. As for people that share an account, 28% split that monthly subscription cost with those who share the password.
