Thefts Of Packages In 2019
Online shopping has revolutionized how most consumers do their holiday shopping in 2019. Anything and everything can easily be delivered directly to your door usually within a few days. However, the rise in online shopping has also led to the rise of package theft and porch pirates.
A new survey from a market research firm called C+R Research found that 36% of American consumers have dealt with package theft within the last year. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday approaching that number is sure to be on the rise. They asked 2,000 consumers who have shopped online within the last year about their fears and experiences with package theft and online shopping as well as the preventative measures they’ve taken to avoid getting a package stolen.
Here’s what they found:
- 92% of consumers expect to get at least one online order delivered this holiday season
- 54% of consumers are fearful of packages being stolen when making online purchases, 42% avoid buying certain items due to package theft
- 36% consumers have reported having a package stolen at least once within the last year (This number is up slightly from 31% from a separate 2017 study on package theft!)
- 44% of those impacted by package theft have installed a security camera or a doorbell camera after having a package stolen
