As the holiday season approaches, many people find themselves scrambling to get their homes in order. This can be a difficult and overwhelming task, especially if you’re trying to do it all yourself. One way to simplify the process is to downsize your belongings before the holidays. Here are five things you should consider getting rid of.
Clothing
Your closet is probably one of the most cluttered areas in your home. This is because people tend to hold onto clothes they no longer wear simply because they think they might need them someday. However, this can take up valuable space and make it difficult to find the clothes you actually want to wear. Before the holidays, go through your closet and get rid of any clothes that you no longer wear or that no longer fit. This will de-clutter your closet and make it easier to find the clothes you need during the holiday season.
Toys
Toys come in all shapes and sizes and can quickly take over your home if you’re not careful. If your children have outgrown their toys or no longer play with them, it’s time to get rid of them. Start by dividing the toys into two piles: one for donation and one for trash. Then, go through the donation pile and separate the toys into different categories, such as puzzles, games, stuffed animals, etc. This will make it easier for you to find a new home for the toys.
Furniture
Furniture can be bulky and difficult to move, so it’s often one of the last things people downsize. However, getting rid of unwanted furniture can free up a lot of space in your home. If you have any furniture that is damaged, broken, or no longer needed, hiring a junk removal company to haul it away can be a great solution. This will clear out your home and make it easier to move around during the holiday season.
Electronics
As technology advances, many people often upgrade their electronics without getting rid of the old ones. This can create a lot of clutter in your home, as well as pose a safety hazard. If you have any old electronics you no longer use, it’s best to get rid of them before the holidays. You can either donate them or recycle them, depending on their condition. Just be sure to wipe any personal data from the devices before you get rid of them.
Decorations
While it may seem counterintuitive, getting rid of some of your holiday decorations can actually make the holiday season less stressful. This is because you can focus on the decorations that you actually love and use, rather than feeling obligated to put up everything you have.
Even though getting rid of stuff can be difficult, it is worth it in the end. Not only will you have a de-cluttered home, but you’ll also find that the holiday season is much less stressful. So, before the holidays begin, take some time to downsize your belongings. You’ll be glad you did.
