Wear Sunscreen Everyday No Matter Where You Live
When I was young, I heard a song that would change my life, but I never knew just how important its primary message was until I got older, the usage of sunscreen. The song was called “Everybody’s Free To Wear Sunscreen” by Baz Lahrmen.
The song is filled with wisdom, first telling you about the benefits of wearing sunscreen long-term, but moves on to let you know about power, beauty, looks, youth, the past, the future, family, love, competition in the world with others, offering advice on wear to live, traveling, politicians, the economy, children and elders, letting you know that there are some people who find their purpose in life, while others grow older and still have no idea what they want to do or what they are supposed to do, but ultimately getting to its final message: trust me on the sunscreen.
The sun is powerful and the ultimate mass in the universe that allows us to continue living our lives on Earth. It provides heat, warmth, and an abundance of energy that we can use to not only sustain our lives, but the technology we use on the planet as well, in the form of solar power conversion to energy. Humans have been relying on the sun every single day since the beginning of our time for light and heat. Without the sun, life would and could not be possible. However, the sun, a necessity, similar to the oxygen we breathe, can destroy our lives, more specifically, our skin, our cells, and atoms. The damage of the sun usually appears in redness and burns and can lead to cancer.
Upon knowing this and living in a warmer part of the Earth, I make an effort to put on sunscreen everyday, regardless of the season or temperature outside. If I am going out between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM, this is when the sun is at its strongest and most powerful. Thus, throwing on some sunscreen, whether it is in spray form or lotion form, can protect skin. When put on, it feels as if the skin is cooler and the sun cannot penetrate it. There are advocates for sunscreen and many who feel it is more dangerous than the sun itself.
For those who believe that sunscreen is more dangerous, this is a myth. The only time sunscreen is dangerous is when the ingredients of sunscreen are not correct and is not protecting the skin, allowing for the sun to penetrate the skin for long periods of time. This often occurs when people put on sunscreen and hang out in the sun for hours. Sunscreen with full ingredients wears over time as well, usually lasting as long as 90 minutes, before it begins to lose its effects, as the oil from your skin usually sweats it off.
There is a lot of science backing the powers of sunscreen and prove that it is effective at reducing wrinkles, aging, and skin cell destruction. For ladies who obsess about using beauty lotion products, sunscreen is the ultimate protector of your skin. Whether you live in Canada or near the equator, if you can see the sun, UVA and UVB rays can hit your skin. The sun consists of radiation that is not healthy to your skin for long periods of time.
Luckily for the Earth and all living things on it, the atmosphere has its own natural protections, but the sun is still powerful enough to pass through the layers of atmosphere and reach your skin. Prolonged sun exposure or radiation exposure combined with skins cells can do some major damage to your DNA. SPF 15 is powerful enough to block most of the sun, about 90% of sunlight, and SPF 30, SPF 50, or greater can block up to 95% to 97%. The only thing that can block 100% of sunlight is certain clothing.
Speaking of sunlight, the other most overlooked area on our body that gets high amounts of sunlight is our eyes, so it is important to get UV Ray blocking sunglasses for protection. While it is definitely okay to go spend a day at the beach, it is not recommended to do it without protection, in the form of sunscreen and sunglasses. If you did happen to get sunburn, there are plenty of tools to help your skin heal itself including Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, and Solar Cane.
There are times where sunblock may be forgotten, and during these times, it is important to try and stand in shade or covered areas. Sunlight in small amounts, even exposed without sunscreen, can increase our immune systems and make people happier overall, but it is the prolonged exposure to the sun that is dangerous to our skin. If you are going to go outside or travel anywhere, make sure you have sunscreen or sunblock.
