Hot Blog Niches In 2018
Maybe you have already learned how to start a blog effectively and have found that you enjoy it and you’re good at it, and now you’ve learned that you can also make money with it!
So, how do you capitalize on that? Well, for one, if you want blogging to become a financially fruitful endeavor for yourself, it’s important to pay attention to trends. Of course, it’s best when you can write about whatever you are passionate and knowledgeable about, but it’s also in your best interest to see what is going to draw the greatest audience.
So, here, we are going to share with you our findings about the hottest blog niches currently taking off. More than likely, you can find at least one or two to take advantage of.
First – Let’s Talk Style
Before you choose a particular “niche,” or topic/genre to focus on, you should also be mindful of your stylistic choices. Regardless of what topic you choose, you can write it in essay format, listicle format (the ever popular lists), how-to format, etc.
A word to the wise – think about the audience for your chosen niche and what will most appeal to them to help you decide what styles/formats to use most frequently.
That said, there are definitely some very popular and successful styles out there right now, namely:
- Listicles: they are easily consumable and quickly applicable. BuzzFeed and Huffington Post have solidified their popularity and made their fortunes off of listicle posts.
- How–To’s: this might not fit all niches, but we bet that most niches you could write in could have this approach brought to bear in one way or another, and with great success.
- FAQ’s: again, this may not work for all topics, but it could work for most, especially if you get creative.
7 Blog Niches That Are Heating Up
Now that you’re also keeping style in mind, here are some of the hottest blog topics, as well as some of the “old faithful’s” that aren’t going away any time soon.
- Politics: even if you aren’t a news junkie, you know that with recent, unprecedented changes in government and administrations (such as what has occurred with Brexit and with the election of Trump), politics is an incredibly hot topic and won’t be dying town soon. Just make sure you’ve got some thick skin, or else this may not be for you.
- Health and Fitness: the past few decades have seen an all-out obsession with health and fitness. And while trends have come and gone (Adkins, South Beach, now the Whole 30), there will ALWAYS be health and fitness trends aplenty to blog about.
- Agriculture / Food: similar to the above, there has been a growing concern regarding foods, what’s in them, how to eat well, how to avoid pesticides, etc. etc. This niche has TONS of sub-niches too (organics, growing your own herbs, vegetables, chickens, etc.), which means you will always have plenty to write about and can start broad and hone in on what you find to be most successful.
- Entrepreneurship, Business, How to Make Money: quite possibly the hottest topic out there right now as many try to navigate the recent recessions and the ever unstable economic and political atmosphere is how to earn more money in one way shape or form.
- DIY: in a world where folks are trying to save money AND where DIY has become incredibly trendy, you can’t go wrong with this niche. It’s great too because you can take it in so many directions (DIY home décor, gardening, home repair, etc.)
- Ultimate Guides: no one reads instruction manuals anymore (because they’re too dense and wordy). They Google everything. So, if you are a subject matter expert, then providing “Ultimate” or “Complete” or “Extensive” guides is perfect, and extremely popular.
- Product Reviews: people rely on what they can find on the web about different products to help determine whether or not to purchase them. As such, this is a fantastic niche full of variety and opportunity. It’s also one of the easiest with which to make money.
A Final Word
Ultimately, your blog can and will be successful if you are mindful of your audience and what they want and need. If with your blog you deliberately take the angle of solving a problem, answering a question, and giving people what they want, then regardless of what niche and style you choose, you will have a successful blog.
But if your blog is aimless and even with a popular topic isn’t doing more than rambling on about it, you will struggle. People want solutions to their problems and they want to be better versions of themselves. You can angle your blogs to meet these needs, whether you write about health and fitness, or about politics or DIY.
