When Karma Takes Its Sweet Ass Time, Its Bittersweet
Many years ago, I managed to acquire the job of my dreams to the point where it has become my career and I’ve been able to work with it and around it, working other jobs, while still being able to do my main job. I was moved across the country and was willing to do anything to keep the career of my dreams. I work as a web designer for the media and I have loved every minute of it. There is nothing I would not do for my job, no matter what is asked of me.
That is until my company made a plan to get rid of me, and they did try their hardest to do so. I had multiple bosses, four to be exact. I had normally just done my job and everything worked out just fine, but lately, they had been nitpicking my mistakes beyond necessary. In doing so, I would have four bosses call me into an office to ask me what I did wrong and why. It even got to the point where I had to write every task I was doing as a checklist. It was annoying, but I did it in order to get out of “probation”.
It still kept happening where they would still call me into an office. Although I didn’t want to point out my co-workers, I would see them making the same mistakes and none of them would get any hell for it. No one was called into an office. No one was reprimanded. However, when I made a mistake, no matter how big or small, it always led me being called into an office. The mistake could be as simple as a typo to as large as organizing the job under the wrong category. In order to understand just how much they were after me every time, I asked my coworkers, as a courtesy, to make a few mistakes. Nothing major, but just to see if anything would happen to them.
Nothing. Nothing at all happened to any of them. I kept my mouth shut and learned to stop making mistakes. I stopped giving my bosses a reason to even talk to me and I didn’t volunteer to talk to any of them. Fast forward five years later and during those five years, I’ve seen a lot and managed to get by under the radar. Of course, it is still my dream job and I love doing it for a living, but in the time I’ve worked for the company, I’ve seen those four bosses all get demoted, promoted, or fired.
One of the boss’ decided he would try to get a raise by thinking they needed him and blackmailed the company. He was instantly fired. Another boss, over time, was rendered to nothing more than scheduling my vacation time and approving it. The third boss eventually got demoted and would be removed from her position by the fourth boss. The fourth boss eventually created herself a new position, giving up complete control over my department. Thus, five years later, I am still working my dream job and career, while those four bosses who gave me hell, have no power over me anymore. Karma is a bitch and karma takes its time, but karma eventually gets around and does what it needs to do.
If you’re stuck in your day job and love it but work with assholes. It might be that you just have to wait. Yes, it takes time. Yes, there will be days where your life will be miserable. But ultimately, if you wait long enough: all things come to an end. If you choose to stay, that is up to you. You may or may not get rid of your bosses or coworkers, and if they don’t leave, maybe you should. But karma will always get everyone in one way or another, especially those that have no respect for you.
