A Look At The Types Of Renewable Energy
Climate change is perhaps the greatest challenge of the twenty-first century. One think-tank, Breakthrough, has said that a “war-time response” is needed to avoid the cost of rising sea levels and the displacement of a billion people. The world is slowly waking up to meet this challenge, and so the push to invest in renewables – clean, green energy sources that do not contribute as much (or any) greenhouse gases – has never been greater. It also helps that the technology is much cheaper, more efficient, and better than it was even 10 years ago.
Below is an infographic that charts future projections of the biggest renewable energy sectors in the world today, including hydrogen fuel cells, wind power, solar power, nuclear energy, biomass energy, geothermal power, and hydroelectric. Each section shows how the costs are continuing to fall, as well as any major milestones that are projected for each of the renewable energy sources (for example: in 2040 the nuclear industry is expected to be almost twice as big as is was in 2016), including market increases and demand forecasts.
There may be many difficult challenges in store, but as the infographic shows, this is also a time of hope and opportunity. A greener, cleaner world, with sustainable jobs, waits.
