Global Warming Is Very Real, Do You Care?
I do my best not to turn Confessions of the Professions into a political or a climate change website, hence why I only publish articles related to such topics less than a few times per year. However, there may be a time where I may no longer be able to publish articles because I won’t have an audience, because most of our lives will have changed, and it will not be the Internet that is important anymore, but surviving in a cold harsh environment that was once teeming with beautiful life and we enjoyed the comforts of what the Earth gave us, even though we took everything for granted.
As an American, I suppose I have every right to complain about our leaders, the ones who are largely responsible for most of the current wars in the world, the ones who have allowed corporate greed to buy the entire United States government, while turning the other cheek to a world that seems to be dying. Every day, we turn on the news or come across articles in our Facebook feed that tells us the world is on fire, another large animal has gone extinct due to human activity, and many sea animals who can no longer breathe underwater due to a lack of oxygen-fresh bubbles in those areas. And yet, our leaders continue to pretend as if nothing is wrong, nothing is happening, and everything is fine, as they continue to sign the very papers they are using to cut down millions of trees per day, while replacing none of them, so that companies can continue building new shopping malls, new areas, and ultimately driving out any species that lived there.
With the series of Human Greed, which I publish every year on my birthday. I would probably rather publish something more fun on my birthday, but dedicate my birthday to covering the human greed series, only published once per year, and the reality is that planet is no longer for any other species. The truth of the matter is that if humans were gone, the Earth would be fine and do great for some other species that appreciates it, like all the animal species we have been wiping out, intentionally and unintentionally. It is very apparent that humans really don’t care and they think the Earth belongs to them. We can happily argue that temperatures rise and fall on the Earth, and I can vouch for you that moving to and living in the desert of New Mexico, the world is vastly changing. When I moved here over 5 years ago, the desert was dry, hot, and brown. Now why would I complain about the rise in rainfall or the green that is growing all over the desert? After all, the birds do fly and drop their droppings, which lay in the sand, until the harsh winds we have come and blow it all around, covering it in the sand, until one day, it receives enough water from rainfall to finally start growing. At first as shrubs, sometimes weeds or bushes, but then as trees, which is great. However, something does not seem right.
The desert has vastly changed in 5 years and yet my leaders, your leaders, our leaders are telling us that everything is fine and climate change is false. How ignorant do you have to be to look at someone and tell them that climate change is not real. Hurricanes. Tornados. Tsunamis. Earthquakes. The Earth is changing and we can continue to keep ignoring it until we cannot anymore. How long before the natural disasters of mother Earth have to hit our front doors in order for us to realize just how very real this dire situation is?
What can you do about it, you ask? Honestly? You probably will do nothing about it. And you know something? I don’t care. I have no children and I only have about 40 years left in the world. So why should I care about what happens to you and your children or their children? My legacy will be done with and I will eventually become a forgotten name, as time quickly erases the fact that I was ever born on this planet, though I hope to have left a very minimum impact on the devastating effects of Earth. I was taught to recycle, turn off lights, throw cans in the blue bin, paper in the correct bin, plastics, and more. About 80% of my garbage is recycled, while 10% is burned in the fireplace to convert to heat to keep my home warm, while the remaining 10% is pure garbage that cannot be reused, recycled, or anything else, but rather, must be buried or processed in a plant that specializes in eliminating garbage.
So when you see the comparison of what the Industrial Revolution has done for humanity, which by the way, has been a great thing. We love our technology and for sure, it has made our lives thousands of times better. Unfortunately, it came at the price of rising temperatures and a dying Earth. This is not to say that we cannot and should not have technology, but to create and use technology, while also continuing to care about our Mother Earth.
When you want to argue with anyone, thinking that your statement is fact, while scientists have clearly done millions of hours of research to show that the Earth climate is changing, the temperatures are rising, the sea levels are also rising, and you think you are right. Then ask who is the problem. Climate change deniers: look at your children and tell them that this is the world you have left for them. This is the world you wanted them to live in. By all means, please. Tell them exactly why you had them and please, be truthful. My father and mother rushed to get married just two weeks before I was born. I can deduce by my birthday that both my parents had sexual relations around Valentine’s Day and their impending miserable relationship for the next 15 years that ultimately led to their divorce let me know that my parents had me like most parents have their children: unplanned, heat of the moment, passionate, and accidental.
You know what that does to me? Nothing. I’m okay with it and still grateful that I got to experience this life as a soul living in a human body on this planet. So if I can handle the truth about my parents, your children can handle the truth about the disaster of a world you left for them to clean up. The harsher truth is that you are going to be optimistic and hopeful about it and you’re going to lie to your children in the face, as you have done many times before, and tell them that the problem has a solution and it can be fixed. Of course, it can be fixed! The dinosaurs, as a species, got to spend a good 300 million years walking this Earth. They died.
New life was born. The same thing will happen to the Earth again. Humans will die out. The Earth will somehow manage to be habitable again for more species to grow and evolve into whatever they will become, and life will start again. Maybe an alien species may move to consume and appreciate the resources they will find on this Earth, including learning how to turn the billions of dead humans into oil for their own automobiles or spaceships. The reality of the situation, when you come to understand it is that our damage is not reversible at all. Far better than our own media is the show called The Newsroom on HBO, and in Season 3, Episode 3, Jeff Daniels and other actors are portraying the media portraying a real life crisis that cannot be changed or stopped, and yet, this show is more factual than anything the media is willing to release or cover. Why? Because the media wants ratings. Talking about death and destruction makes people turn away, as they cannot believe it, so the media refuses to report real life truth on the matter because their ratings would falter. Why is there such a disconnect between the reality of the situation of planet Earth and what humans are actually seeing and observing?
There is truly only so much the Earth can take and tolerate. Flying or driving around the planet, you might think the Earth is big, but there’s really only so much it can handle of dangerous human activity. This infographic will tell you the average temperature of every month of every year dating back to 1850 all the way to 2019. If this chart does not convince you, then nothing will. Tell your children you love them very much and ignorance is bliss. I did try to warn you, but rather than take it seriously, living in denial and a world of consumerism is far more safer, like pretending that your marriage still means something after the sex and love are gone, and all that remains is some semblance of existing together, yet you still “remain in it for the kids.” The reality is that you are doing no one, not even your children, any favors. All that is happening is that you are getting older and more bitter, while remaining ignorant to the fact that change needs to happen so that you and everyone else can live a better life.
I cannot tell you or convince you to change your ways. Only you can do that. If not for you, then do it for your children. If not for your children, then for someone else’s children. Imagine going into a dirty hotel room where the sheets were not washed, the towels were on the bathroom floor, and someone ordered room service and there are dishes all over. Not to mention the fact that there is a really nasty stain on the bedsheets. You are leaving, correct? You get to do that with a hotel room, but not planet Earth. And that is the place you are leaving for your children.
Good luck. Take a look at this infographic to see the damage your great grandparents, your grandparents, your parents, and you have done. And if you’re not educated and don’t care about the planet, then why would your children? So you’ve just passed on indifference and now have destroyed your entire ancestral lineage, which will no longer be able to continue peacefully, as your entire family once dreamed. You did this. You allowed this. And now you must accept responsibility for the disasters that are not only happening, but the future disasters that are going to be everyday commonplace.
