Confessions Tops 3,000 Articles
As I write this, I already know there are more than 3,000 articles that will be published. In fact, there are at least a few hundred already scheduled to go out. The published amount of articles is around 2,950 as I write this, but in the blink of an eye, 3,000 is approaching, and I’ve made it a ritual to always mention the 500-post milestones, thus this article will be published as the 3,000th article. And during our milestone recaps, I often just try to let you know a little about the story of Confessions of the Professions. To this day, the story still continues to be written, and without you, it certainly would not be possible.
Coming up with 500 articles alone would be impossible by myself. There is no way I have that much to talk about. In the eight years I’ve been running this website, however, I have likely reached 500 articles written that I may claim credit for writing. With the contributions of so many amazing authors, marketing agencies, schools, and businesses, we have achieved 3,000. 8 years ago, when this blog first began, I decided I would open it up, and allow anyone to come come and submit their article or infographic to the website.
It began as a hobby website and mostly still is, though it has been slightly monetized and runs more professional than just as a hobby. The idea was likely already brooding during my college days. I was studying psychology with an emphasis on social psychology and industrial-organizational psychology. Social psychology is how we behave in everyday life, while industrial-organizational studies our behavior and relationships in the workplace with each other and our employee-employer relationships. The result? Well, while I cannot say that the articles solely focus on research, but there are many aspects of jobs, careers, and the workplace that are covered.
Many marketing agencies, research agencies, educational institutions, and freelance writers contribute to Confessions of the Professions. It has never been advertised on Google Ads nor has there ever been any transaction for traffic. All traffic is organic. As of November 1, 2020, the majority of traffic was coming from China, interesting enough. What could be going on and why is China visiting? The simple fact is… we reached out to about 16 Chinese women and asked them about their thoughts on the Chinese government, the Chinese people, and the CCP COVID-19 virus. They all responded we published their articles. You can find them throughout the website, but this one, straight from Wuhan, started it all.
We did stumble several times, but have had about 2 to 3 major outages, 2 of which data loss occurred over the years, but we were able to recover most of the lost website. We lost a few articles, due to a server crash, but were mostly able to recover back to our normal routine of operations, as well as restore our traffic back to normal. We are always trying to improve and ensure our data is backed up as we do take this website very seriously. In almost giving up hope, thinking we lost everything earlier this year, as the server crashed, we were lucky to have only lost a few weeks worth of data.
I cannot thank you to the contributors, the readers, the authors, the women, the men, who all keep coming back to this website. I wanted to just let it go, give up, and each time I tried, I would get an email asking me if I would publish an article or complimenting me on an article that helped someone, and thus, I realize, Confessions of the Professions is who I am and what I must do, and it continues to be powered by you, the believers, the writers, the ones who understand, the ones who can relate, and see what this website has to teach.
Confessions of the Professions tries to remain unbiased. While we have gotten into topics of politics, the website itself never chooses a side, as information is and should always remain unbiased to the best of the author’s ability to get out the truth. Thus, my opinions or things on this website do not reflect the opinions of the website itself, as the website itself is a platform to express thoughts, ideas, and opinions, never suppressing any information that needs to be exposed and out there, even if the media fails to do it.
While we do publish for free, we offer a paid option and many of our marketing agencies have contributed, which has been a godsend of helping to offset the costs of the hosting. This has also helped to fund one of our latest and greatest projects of 2020, the My Life As A Woman Project Initiative which was turned into a book, My Life As A Woman: World Edition. This was our gift to the world. Everyone who supported this website and in some way contributed is certainly honored for being a part of something that is now part of a great world history.
We have so many articles to keep publishing. We introduced ONET Insights this year which pulls in information from ONET OnLine to provide readers with details about jobs, including skill sets, talents, education, experience, etc. This information is extremely invaluable and was showed to me just after I graduated from community college, back in 2008. It changed my life and really paved the way for why I would become interested in jobs, careers, and the workplace and the human place within it. I really found it an extremely knowledgeable source with ever-increasing and ever-changing job data that is timeless and helps you find exactly what you should be doing with your life.
Our message is clear: we want to get your message out there. We focus on articles that dive into jobs, careers, and the workplace, but we love the articles that focus on your life in the workplace, and how you get through it. In addition to receiving funds, articles, and support for this site, which helped to sponsor the book, we receive about 30 to 50 emails per week, and about 50 to 100 articles are submitted monthly via email. Hi China! How are you? Awesome to have you visiting this website! Russia? You’re here too? Amazing! And the Netherlands and France? Who would’ve thought! These foreign countries, saw a great increase in traffic, as I was sharing it with women from around the world, as we engaged in conversations and interviews in order to write the book, and have surpassed the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and India, which all used to be right behind the United States. Where are my European, Canadian, Australian, and Indian visitors? For years, just after the United States, you dominated this website and we love you for it! Please feel free to contribute your articles and tell us about life and work in your country!
Anyway, thank you so much for your support. Our primary focus is always on jobs, careers, and the workplace, but we do have a very special interest in the resilience, strength, and power of women. Every year or so, we try to come up with some unique brainstorm idea that will attract more people to read this website. A few years ago, we posted a weekly challenge. At one time or another, we had introduced games (inactive, but we may bring a few games back), resources (external useful websites that is run by the community ~ I only post the links, they share them), and a bunch of other interesting endeavors. Some things still exist on the website, but most don’t. Our latest, introduced in 2019, was ONET Insights. This year, due to COVID-19 and an amazing opportunity, we obtained the stories of women throughout the world, in every country on the planet.
With that said, why not experience the adventure? Go ahead. You know you can’t resist. It’s amazing. I promise, you won’t be bored. I personally don’t believe in boredom. 530 women. 201 countries.
