In an age where many full-time jobs offer good pay and benefits, job satisfaction is often the deciding factor in where you work. If you are looking for something where your creativity and artistic side can shine, then you might want to look into jobs that are actually more artistic than you think.
Web Developers
Many people who don’t do this kind of work think it means having an analytical mind and typing lots of lines of code. Those skills certainly factor in, but web developers can be creative souls, too. They envision a final product, be it a single page or a whole website, and then create it using both front- and back-end code and resources.
Industrial Designers
This is one profession where art mixes with business more so than most. Industrial designers make products ranging from furniture and appliances to passenger vehicles. Artistry is required to fuel innovation while finding fresh ways of presenting products to consumers. Creativity is as important as engineering knowledge.
Baristas
Coffee shops are like restaurants in how they often display limited menus but can make so much more with the ingredients that they have available. A barista will sometimes experiment with their own concoctions that they add to their establishment’s secret menu, or they’ll ask loyal customers to try them out. Winning creations often go on to become part of the regular menu if the reception to them is warm enough.
Editors
Many believe that writing is a profession where artistry is necessary, and that’s true. However, most writing also has to be edited. Fact-checking and correcting grammar aren’t necessarily artistic in nature, but making textual changes that preserve the original writer’s voice and style certainly is.
Journalists
Journalism isn’t just about reciting the facts about a story. Telling people the who, why, what, when, and where always comes with the territory, but the human element in this profession is helping people understand why certain pieces of news should matter to them. The how is where artistry in communication comes into play.
When you need a job to pay bills, buy food, and keep a roof over your head, then anything with a decent paycheck will do. However, when you have options, it’s important to find something where you can be artistically satisfied with your work. Spending 40 hours or so a week anywhere can be a lot more fulfilling when you’re having some fun with your creative side.
