[Report] Millennial Prescription Drug Use During COVID-19
A new study is shedding light on millennials’ relationship with prescription medication. A nationwide survey by Drug Genius found 61% of millennials say their mental health has suffered since the pandemic’s onset in 2020, with 16% starting a mental health-related prescription in the past 2 years.
- The top three most common categories of medications being prescribed or sought out include anti-anxiety (31%), antidepressants (28%), and birth control (18%).
- Average millennial spends $252 on prescription medicine annually.
- 1 in 5 admits to skipping doses to save money, while 40% admit to forgetting to take their medication as prescribed
The study also revealed that in the past year more than 43% of millennials have taken a medication that wasn’t prescribed to them. Their reason? Roughly half (52%) wanted to see if it would help an untreated medical condition, while 31% say they did it for recreational use.
