From cracked screens to water damage, many of us have a horror story when it comes to handling our smartphones.

Secure Data Recovery surveyed 2,200 Americans on their experiences breaking their devices.

Key findings:

• 76% of Americans have had to replace a phone due to breaking it.
• 38% have had to replace a laptop due to breaking it.
• Bathrooms are a particular issue for 23% of Americans who have dropped their phone in the toilet.
• The most common phone mishaps: 1. Cracking the screen 2. Throwing it by accident 3. Spilling a drink on it
