I am a sales representative for various chemicals that are used in buildings, maintenance, etc. My personal experience has been great because I have always been good with people. They say that in order to be a great salesperson, you have to be great with people and I really think that it is my “calling”.
In my work experience, I go on meetings with different building engineers as we are more focused on supplying chemicals for building construction and maintenance. Talking with engineers are very exciting because there are a lot of things that you can learn. I’ve been working as a sales representative for almost 10 years now, and I am really loving it.
In fact, I enjoy every minute of it. One of the best things that I love about this job is that I get to meet a lot of people, not just the clients but I also get to talk to various kinds of people. There are a lot of things that you can learn.
The job itself has its downsides as well because there are times when you will be rejected while others are just plain rude. As much as I want to quit right then and there, it helped me become stronger and it helped me learn a few techniques to deal with such people.
There are really some clients who won’t make time to speak to you as they have other things to take care of, and because of that I have developed a few skills for them to make time for me. It’s all in the art of speaking.
As you can see, the job itself has made me develop my skills even more, causing me to excel in my chosen career path. The sales industry allows me to learn new things every day. It is nice to talk with different kinds of people and nothing beats the feelings of closing a deal after a long and tedious process of “courting” the client to buy from you instead. This is because the competition is very high as there are a lot of suppliers pitching for their items. You really have to learn how to stand out from the crowd.
During my first few years as a sales representative, I always get frustrated if I don’t get to close the deals while my other colleagues are closing deals after deals. I was frustrated and upset, but I didn’t let that let me down. Instead, I made sure to work as hard as I can to close the deals that I wanted to close and ever since then, I make sure that I close every deal that I get in to. Of course, I don’t get it the easy way. I really have to sweat for it, but I am fulfilled and happy to do so, because nothing beats hard work. My personal work experience as a sales agent has been a roller coaster ride and for sure, I will encounter more twists and turns along the way, but I know I can survive because I love my job.
