Which Cities Have The Most Craft Breweries?
It’s no secret that the craft beer industry has been booming in America throughout the last decade. But which city is the mecca of craft brewing in 2019?
To try and find out, C+R research recently analyzed data from more than 500 U.S. cities to find out which city has the most breweries per 500,000 people. In their analysis they also determined the most popular brewery in each city based on search volume in Google. Topping the list of the most breweries per 500,000 people in the U.S. is the city of Portland Maine with 18 breweries per every 50,000 people. The most popular brewery based on search volume was Bissell Brothers brewing. Coming in second is a city dubbed ‘Beer City USA’ in Asheville North Carolina with 17 breweries per every 50,000 people. Rounding out the top 5 are popular beer cities Bend Oregon, Boulder Colorado and Kalamazoo Michigan. The full analysis can be seen in the graphic below.
One interesting thing to note is that many bigger cities in the country did not make the top 25. Chicago, LA and New York are all absent from the list. Many smaller cities performed better in this analysis because of their smaller population size relative to the number of breweries in their city. Did your city make the list of the top beer cities in the U.S.?
