Ethereum’s reduction in CO2 emissions has saved over 109 million trees

Ethereum has managed to massively decrease its annual CO2 emissions as it has moved to a proof-of-stake blockchain. In 2021, it was creating a huge 21.95 million tons of CO2, which has now been decreased to just 8,824 tons. 44,121 trees would need to be planted in order to offset Ethereum’s annual emissions, compared to a huge 109,751,315 trees the previous year.
Bitcoin Cash has also managed to decrease its annual emissions by a considerable amount. The cryptocurrency now emits 141,466 tons of CO2 per year, compared to 1,477,534 tons in 2021. This means that there now needs to be 707,332 trees planted in order to counteract the CO2 emissions created.
Dogecoin has seen a 25% decrease in its annual CO2 emissions.Throughout 2021, the cryptocurrency emitted 1,423 tons of emissions. This has now been reduced to 1,063 tons in 2022. Due to this, there would now need to be 5,313 trees planted to erase the pollution caused by Dogecoin transactions, rather than 7,117 trees.
With a projected 86.3 million tons of CO2 emissions for 2022, a huge 431.6 million trees would need to be planted in order for Bitcoin’s annual CO2 emissions to be removed from the atmosphere.
The cryptocurrency that increased its emissions the most from 2021 to 2022 is Cardano, with an increase of 112.73%. Cardano is on track to release 11,249 tons of CO2 emissions this year, which is an increase of 5,961 tons since the previous year.
In 2021, Ethereum created a huge 21.95 million tons of CO2! This has now been decreased to just 8,824 tons. There would need to be 44,121 trees planted in order to offset its annual emissions.
The most eco-friendly cryptocurrency available is Stellar, with just 0.0003 kWh per transaction. Stellar also costs less than a cent per transaction.
