[REPORT] 1 in 10 Ignore Wildfire Evacuation Orders
As the US deals with several wildfires right now – I wanted to share a new report that shows the shocking number of Americans who are not prepared for severe weather or natural disasters.
A nationwide survey found more than half of Americans do not have an emergency supply kit and 1 in 10 say they would ignore evacuation orders during a wildfire and stay in their home!
- 78% say they do not have a portable generator and 54% do not have an emergency supply kit.
- 3 in 4 haven’t evacuated even when an evacuation order was issued for a weather or disaster situation
- 23% do not know the difference between a severe weather watch and a warning
With peak severe weather season underway, now may be a good time to share these stats and reminders with your audience.
Take a look at the full report for additional statistics on how Americans prepare and react to severe weather. It also includes a state-by-state breakdown of the most common severe weather questions and concerns.Megan Sanctorum
