Summer is nearly here… which means love is in the air and your local dating scene is about to heat up with over half (54%) of single Americans hoping to end up in a relationship this summer!
A new study by Thriving Center of Psychology found the most important dating trends to know this summer to help singles dust off those flirting skills.
First, forget about six-pack abs and good hair! It turns out that mental and financial stability are the real turn-ons: confidence, debt-free, no social media presence and holding a full-time job are among sexiest traits.
If you don’t quite check any of those boxes, don’t worry! Simply going to therapy also makes you more attractive. In fact, nearly 1 in 4 said they’re more likely to date someone who’s gone to therapy. Tirrell De Gannes, a licensed clinical psychologist, said,
- “As a person looking to date, confidence and mental stability is not only attractive, it is rare and standing out in the dating pool is an anomaly nowadays.”
First dates are also changing. Nearly half of singles are planning to “infla-date” this summer – meaning they’re going on cheaper dates like hikes and grabbing coffee to save money.
“Dry dating” is also becoming increasingly popular. That’s right, 73% of respondents would prefer a first date with no alcohol and 94% of people said they would be open to trying dry dating!
