Suicide is a preventable public health crisis, and it’s time we proactively address it! Recent studies have shown that suicide rates have dramatically increased among Blacks and African Americans in the last decade. Blacks are disproportionately affected by mental health issues and are at a higher risk of suicide than other demographics.
Reducing Black suicide rates means discussing Black mental health instead of sweeping it under the rug. Nationwide, suicides by Black children younger than 18 have risen 71% over the past decade.
In honor of Black History Month, BestColleges.com curated a resource on the suicide rates in the black community.
