Hand Gestures For Active Listeners
When you’re talking to somebody, your voice may be the most important tool you have to make sure your message gets across, but it’s far from the only part of you that can make an impact on your listener. What we do with our hands while talking can be incredibly powerful too, but only if we are using them in a controlled, natural way, so if this doesn’t come easily to you, it’s useful to know what works and what doesn’t.
Luckily, Pound Palace has come up with animated guides to 7 hand gestures that will make sure your audience is hanging on your every word. These vary from one that shows assertiveness and certainty to one that displays honesty and openness and they are mostly very subtle gestures that won’t distract from your message but will enforce it.
On the flipside, there are more showy gestures – like steepling your fingers or holding your hands out wide – that will really make an impact on your audience if you use them wisely. So have a look at these 7 examples and think about which ones you’ll try to include the next time you are giving a big speech or having a crucial conversation.
