Furnished Homes In America
A home doesn’t truly feel like a home until we fill it with our personal possessions and decorate it to our taste. A recent home furnishing report from Improvenet analyzed data from multiple consumer surveys in order to better understand how Americans furnish and decorate their homes in 2019. The report focused primarily on how American consumers shop for furniture in 2019.
Here’s what they found:
- 77% of Americans say at least some of their home is furnished and decorated to their satisfaction
- The most common source of design inspiration in 2019 comes from in store displays (narrowly beating out social media, TV shows, friends and family and interior designers)
- 84% of American consumers buy their furniture new and 74% purchase in-person as opposed to buying online
- American consumers are willing to spend more on these home furnishings (1. Sofa 2. Mattress 3. Television 4. Refrigerator 5. Dining set)
In additional this report, Improvement also analyzed consumer buying trends from the American consumer Expenditure Survey to study geographical data to learn more about which U.S. cities have spent the most on average on household furnishings between 2016-2018. That breakdown can seen in the full report from Improvenet.
