I have been working on Fiverr for work recently to pull in extra income during the COVID-19 quarantine in China. I appreciate you reaching out to me and providing me with some work to do. You asked me about my life in China, growing up, and the current conditions in Wuhan, Hubei, China province. Before I tell you about the current situation, however, I am writing about myself to show that the Chinese people are human and trying to find work and get back to regular life like the rest of the world. We might be ahead of the world as far as what we have gone through, but that does not mean the aftermath of not having the virus active means that everything is back to normal immediately.
I studied English on campus and went to college in Wuhan, Hubei province. I grew up in Hubei and have worked in Beijing for two years since my graduation. Beijing as the capital city of China, has seen great development of Chinese national strength. It is also my favorite city. I worked in a translation company in Chaoyang District, which is the center for us youngsters. Generally, I get up early to catch the right time to the subway to go to work.
It is quite crowded in the morning peak but the subway is really convenient which can take me to the gate of my company. I worked as a translator for 2 years and translation is where my interest lies in. The translation work can get me a decent salary, but it can be a little hard for sometimes as I have to work very late, even on weekends, as the rest of the world is in business, while China is sleeping.
Besides my full-time job, I would get some freelancer jobs on Fiverr or Upwork to earn extra money and enrich my experience. The rent is high in Beijing, especially in the core area (Chaoyang District, Haidian District etc) which takes nearly half of my salary. Except for rent, other expenditures are mild in my opinion. It will not cost me much on eating or buying and Beijing has many traditional and tasty food which deserves a try. Every month, I save a certain amount of my salary as my “Dream Foundation”. It could be used to prepare for emergency, travel all over the world, or just to buy something that I have been longing to have. It is kind of my “little plans” and my bucket list though.
As for the current life in China, take myself as an example. I am still staying at my hometown, Hubei province. However, it won’t affect my job because of the remote office and I can do the translation work with my computer. Life is better now than the initial outbreak of COVID-19 in China. It seems that international pandemic is becoming more intense. As the conditions turned out better and better in China, nearly all cities have cleared the quarantine restrictions, except for the suspected and confirmed cases and other specific requirements.
China is gradually recovering from the catastrophe of COVID-19 and many commercial and domestic tourist activities are back to normal. It is also required to wear face masks at all times if you go to public places and daily disinfection is mandatory. From this perspective, China is doing a great job on preventing the spread of virus. So China is getting better and you don’t have to worry so much. By the way, it is quite easy to buy face masks or other preventants in China now.
From all the above, it shows maybe a slight perspective of life in China and is presented for your reference. The future of China can be astonishing in my eyes with more and more achievements China has made these years. The Covid-19 also proves the great work China has done for the world in showing how to effectively stop the virus or future viruses from spreading again.
