Matching your watch to your outfit is simple but sometimes can be a challenge. The key to achieving this is to keep it simple and practical. You do not have to but a new outfit to match a new expensive watch – it is impractical. Remember that your watch is part of your outfit, so the goal is to enhance your outfit and not to make the watch stand out from it. Here are some general tips to guide you to match your watch to your outfits.
The metal frame around the face of your watch should match the color of metal elements of your outfit. The shape of the watch’s face is not that significant. The finish – be it matte, shiny patterned, or other accents – is essential. Watches come in different face materials, including steel, silver, gold, titanium, and platinum. The idea is to have your watch complement your ring and belt buckle. For example, you can have all your accessories with a silver or gold accent. This way, you will have to consider the color of your cufflinks, shoe buckles, and other jewellery on your outfit.
Let the material and colour of your shoes guide your choice of the watchband. First, match your belt and shoes then go for a watchband that compliments the match. This implies that you should wear a black band with black shoes and belts. Similarly, you should wear a brown watchband with brown shoes and belt. Silver and gold watchbands are an exception – they blend well with either color. Consider interchangeable watch bands if you have shoes in different colors. Do not worry about the bands having the exact colour as your shoes; a similar tone is okay.
If you are uncertain how to compliment your dress to a watch, stick to the simple rule – match the watch with your shoes. Here is where interchangeable watch straps come in handy. Look for a retailer that will sell you different kinds of straps that you can use for your outfits. You can find great sellers online, such as theorema watch. They sell black, brown, and other colors to match a variety of shoes in your possession. Silver watches match well with black, grey, blue, and silver shades of shoes. Brown, beige, tan, and other tones of shoe color match best with gold watches. Remember that black is the most formal while brown is less formal, and if you are attending a casual event, a different color other than brown will match perfectly with your jeans or sneakers.
A formal or casual outfit will dictate the choice between digital and analog watches. Digital watches have a display panel (either LED or LCD) that indicates the time in numeric form. Digital watches are considered casual – do not wear them with formal or business outfits. When you opt to go casual, wear a digital watch. A sports watch with rubber straps is quite versatile and will look great with almost any casual outfit. Use analog for formal and business outfits. For a black-tie event, a simple dress watch with black straps will do the trick. Brown bands are ideal for a business outfit.
For the best appearance, wear a watch size that is appropriate for your body size. Slender men can wear slim watches. Bigger guys can wear watches that have boxier faces. Go for a watch with a larger diameter if you are large or a watch with a small diameter if you are small.
