PROBLEM: No matter what you do, regardless of how many emails you have unsubscribed for and how many you avoid subscribing for, you seem to find your email loaded with junk, garbage, advertisements, and spam email that you just do not want. You spent years subscribing to this or that and not realizing that each time, your email was being subscribed to a newsletter or an online subscription. In addition, your email was probably also sold to a dozen other companies who send you loads of garbage that you do not want to receive. You avoid checking your email like its the plague because you know the only thing you will find in there is crap.
This is exactly what happened to my Yahoo email and I abandoned it. In fact, I just received an email to my primary email address from Yahoo wishing me a Happy Anniversary – 12 years with Yahoo! Email and yet I have not logged into that email account in over 10 years. No matter what I did, no matter how many times I hit the spam button, email would just keep piling in, making that email address useless. What is the point of trying to read important emails if you have to scroll through a dozen just to find it?
SOLUTION: Sign up for any email account on any email platform and use that email as your spam collector. You do not ever have to login, but more and more sites are asking for your email address in order to even visit the website or webpage.
Your email address is also collected when you purchase something from an E-commerce store, so they can send you advertisements each week or month and even those can get annoying.
You will want to make sure you have some control over this email address, especially if you need to receive a confirmation order. If that is the case, you may want to filter certain emails to forward to your address. For example, if you do use this spam email as your collect-all email address, you can filter specific emails with keywords to go to forward to your primary email address.
My recommendation is a Gmail account. Gmail severely reduces spam on its own and is one of the best email platforms there is. It is extremely efficient and learns very well in reducing spam. I had received so much spam in my Yahoo! Email that I figured Yahoo! was getting paid by spam advertisers for email address.
Google could do this too, but instead, they are more legit and sell advertising space in emails in order to make their revenue. This is less intrusive and a better way to “sell” your email address that is not as annoying to you, who just wants to check and receive legit important email.
Only give your primary email address to anyone you want to have it. For anything else, use your fake spam email account to be the collector of all things garbage. You will have a peace of mine, reduce your stress, and speed up your time shifting through your emails if you never have to worry about receiving spam in the first place. Once any company receives that primary email address, it is hard not to receive spam, and even harder to stop it from coming your email address.
If no one except your family and personal friends know your primary email address, than no one can ever send you spam. Keep your primary email and your spam email separate. Although you will never be able to avoid spam entirely, you will be able to reduce it to almost nothing by keeping a separate email for spam only.
