The Millennial Wedding
Millennials are changing the way couples celebrate weddings. In doing away with many time-honored traditions including receiving lines, religious ceremonies, and cake toppers, millennials have chartered a new course and ushered in a new realm of normalcy for weddings in the 21st century. One large change being introduced is a shift in the financial responsibility for their “big day.” According to a new study by jewelry designer, Jean Dousset, almost half of millennial couples said they paid for their own wedding and reception. And of those that admitting to footing the entire bill, half said they split the costs evenly between the bride and the groom. Only one in five couples responded that the bride’s family exclusively paid for the wedding and reception, a deviation from decades of wedding tradition.
The study also revealed that the average cost of weddings paid for by millennial brides and grooms is just shy of $11,000; with the top features split between the bride and groom being the honeymoon, wedding photographer and videographer, ceremony and reception fees, and the rehearsal dinner. When asked about their budget for their “big day,” 40-percent answered that they went over the forecasted budget for the ceremony and reception.
