Could You Use More Gigs In Your Life?
This is an unsponsored review that is personally being written by me. I do not receive anything for the promotion of the company and have written this confession without being in any contact with Gigs 2 Go.
It is not often that I review many products to publish on Confessions of the Professions. For the most part, I usually ask for a write-up and I get to read about it, but I do not do many reviews for companies, as the only ones that usually ask are software companies, and my primary computer is a Chromebook, which usually means I am limited in the software I can use or review. But on occasion, I feel the need to step up and actually write about a product.
This area is more often reserved for many YouTubers who do “open box” videos, showing off and reviewing the product, and many have a huge acquired a huge following. Most of these products are usually new technology, such as a phone, a new gaming system, or something that has yet to be introduced to the market. As these YouTubers have gained popularity, there are plenty of companies willing to send them to these reviewers free, as a gift, in return for the review, as the publicity helps the companies gain exposure. In this instance, however, I will be doing a non-YouTube review, and I have never actually used the product, but I thought it was very clever, as a USB drive or thumb drive or flash drive.
The product is called Gigs2Go by a company called BOLTGroup and they offer USB flash drives in packages in sets of four to easily store data. The package it comes in is as big as a wallet so it could probably fit in your wallet or pocket without issue. At the time of this writing, they offer four 4 GB, four 16 GB, or four 32 GB drives. The interesting and unique approach with Gigs2Go (gigabytes to go) is that these are “tear off”, just as many people staple papers to community boards, with phone numbers listed at the bottom, and they are able to tear one off, the same idea applies to this gigabyte drive.
Gigs 2 Go began a kickerstarter campaign, receiving a total of $17,891 by 393 backers who pledged to help bring this project to life. This proved to be enough to get the company off the ground and they are in business. Why is Gigs2Go such a clever idea? With its clever material, Gigs2Go allows you to take a marker and actually write what purpose the USB drive will serve. It could serve two purposes:
- Individual use for those who need multiple USB drives and do not like storing information on a single drive, for fear that it could get lost, stolen, or damaged, so multiple USB drives is always a great way to feel more secure.
- Sharing is Caring use for those who want to buy a USB drive and do more with it by giving it to friends, family, co-workers, employees, etc.
Sharing is Caring approach can go a long way in regards to giving gifts for people, whether it is friends, family, or co-workers. If you are a business, it makes a very affordable gift and asset for your employees. Imagine putting a bunch of these, easy for the taking, where all the office supplies are, and anyone can come along and take a USB drive. This will help them easily transfer their information from one place to another, or make additional backups, that are not just on their computer or up in the Cloud, but actually on a physical drive that can be stored in a safe place, like their desk drawers.
While I have not personally bought the kit, reviews on Amazon are mixed. Some great, some good, some neutral, and some bad. For the most part: I think Gigs2Go is not meant to replace your standard USB drive that you use everyday. It is not meant to be used as an official hard drive where you have it plugged in and are pulling off data or saving down data all day, everyday. I believe Gigs2Go was intentionally designed to use recyclable materials and give you several USB drives that were meant to be used as long-term data storage or even a quick solution for data storage but must be treated with care and delicacy.
If you or your company are having a major event, you can even customize your Gigs2Go with your company logo and give them out and you can easily add your company information in PDF or other format, if you wish. Since they are computer-related and actually have a great use, people are more likely to use them in their everyday lives. Besides, companies that give out free USB drives at events are usually the cool companies. Honestly, have you ever turned down a free USB drive? Have you ever been offered one? Guaranteed, whether you need it or not, you won’t turn it down!
It is a great gift idea because honestly, who cannot use a little more storage in their life? Whether someone needs room for their photos, their files, their videos, or even a movie or two, storage is something no one ever claims to have enough of. So BOLTGroup’s Gigs2Go is definitely on board to understand the needs of people when it comes to storage. It is relevant, convenient, and very affordable. While I did not see any discounts for ordering in bulk on the website, at the time of this writing, the limit of the quantity you can purchase in a single order is 52, it is still cheap enough for any company to promote, advertise, market, and brand themselves.
