Experts predict a rise in package theft to coincide with the holiday season as many consumers shop from home because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bid-On-Equipment recently analyzed Google search volume in U.S. cities across the country to determine where package theft has been most prevalent during the pandemic.
Here’s what they found:
- 36% of Americans have reported having a package stolen within the last year.
- St. Louis tops the list followed by Minneapolis, Jersey City, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Buffalo, Seattle, Oakland, Orlando and Cincinnati.
- 15 cities from California make an appearance within the top 50 followed by 11 cities in Texas, five in Florida and Arizona, and four in Ohio and North Carolina.
- Of the top five cities on our list, four have a median income above the national average, which is $61,937, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Cities with a higher median income ranked higher for package theft related searches in our analysis.
