Aching Feet and Job Regret: Foot Pain Driving Workers to Consider Career Changes
Career shifts are coming, and it’s all due to foot pain.
Aching feet after a long day at work is more common than you might think. A new survey of more than 1,000 American workers who spend the day on their feet shows more than 1 in 4 are considering changing careers due to the physical toll it takes on their bodies.
From healthcare professionals to construction workers to those in the food service and retail industries, many jobs require workers to be standing or walking for extended periods of time.
- More than 1 in 3 have recurring foot pain due to the demands of their job
- Foot pain is the #1 physical complaint amongst workers in 2023 – outranking back, neck, and leg pain
- Just 17% of employers provide compensation for proper work shoes
Foot pain can have a significant impact on workers’ lives. In fact, 70% of those surveyed said they have skipped exercise and 58% have canceled social plans because of it.
Should employers be doing more to make sure workers are equipped with the proper footwear and the support they need to do their job?
