Road trips can be a great time for family and friends to bond and enjoy the scenery. But if you’re not careful, they can also be expensive because of gas prices. That is why so many people are switching to electric cars because they will save them tons on gas expenses. If you’re looking to take a road trip in your electric car, there are a few things you should prepare for.
The first thing is that it will be much more difficult to find places to charge your vehicle. Most people have never had the opportunity to worry about this before because they have never owned an electric car and so don’t know what it’s like.
But when you do own one, it may become frustrating when every time you want to stop for gas or food or use the restroom, there isn’t a charging station nearby. One way around this potential problem is to make sure you charge your EV wherever you get a charging station instead of discharging it all the way down and making sure to insure your electric vehicle.
Secondly, you should make sure that you bring along a GPS or use your phone’s mapping app to help you find charging stations if needed.
If the charger is located at an establishment like a restaurant, hotel, etc., it may be difficult to know how and where to park and leave your car. It would be terrible if someone were to steal your batteries while you were away from your car!
Finally, it’s always a good idea to have a backup plan. What if you can’t find an open charging station or you run out of battery power while on the road? Make sure that you have a way to get home, like renting a car or taking public transportation.
While it’s important to follow the preparations shared above, below is the infographic from Motor1.com with some of the best tips for taking a road trip in an electric car. So, make sure to follow the tips below to get the most out of your journey in your EV.
