To Tell The Story Or Not To Tell The Story
Of the Difference Between Men and Women
Everywhere you go, there is an interaction and a counter-reaction. When you walk into a store, you have a set of goals in mind. You perform those goals, you conduct your business, you speak with those who may be able to help you, you pay for what you need, and you get on your way. That is how life should work. Life is all about applying yourself and reacting to most of those things that you did.
The other day, when I returned home from my trip in another state, my girlfriend told me of her adventure at Best Buy, which was much longer than the one I told her. To make her long story short, she wanted to purchase a new radio system for her car. She went into the store, explained to the employee the type of radio she was looking for. He pointed out that they did have it and could install it.
It ended up that installing the radio into the car cost a lot more than the radio system itself. She was not really interested in doing that. He then realized he was mistaken about something: If she had a special edition car model, which she did, they did not make that radio for it. Thus, she was turned away, unsuccessful, and had to look for another radio system, which she never ended up getting.
I have lived in several different places and have accumulated some items in each state. I lived in Chicago, where I bought myself a really nice Specialized bike. To make a short story short, I moved away from Chicago, leaving some of my belongings behind with a family member, to another country for about a year, and then I returned back home to my home state, with the intention of moving back to Chicago.
Life happens when you’re busy making plans (John Lennon) and I never returned to Chicago. I am moving again to another state soon and needed to run some errands out in Chicago. I made my arrangements to fly to Illinois in order to get everything done.
On my list was several goals to accomplish including eating Indian food and then Sushi, both of which were very successful accomplishments and I even went back a second time to both places. I had to figure out how to ship my bike from one state to another. I called the bike store to see if they shipped bikes. Afterwards, I called the UPS Store to see how much they would charge me.
It turned out, it would probably be cheaper to just have the bike store break down my bike and then ship it. I walked into the bike store, told them what I needed, and they made it all happen. I also needed to ship my bike helmet and a bike pump to the same place, which I ended up shipping for a fairly affordable rate. A week later, I got a notice from a friend that my bike and all assets arrived.
Simple story, right? Yes, it is. Nothing complicated about it. I went in. I needed a few things accomplished. I waved my credit card, and everything was done. It was really that simple. Okay, I did have some drama — I had to use the bathroom really bad, and the UPS Store actually let me use it! The Indian food I ate earlier got the best of me. But my bathroom journey was dramaless and successful too.
If only life were so easy for everyone. And that was it. Maybe everything went my way, maybe I just got lucky, but I really had no drama to tell in my story.
